Culture: three must-see places
Bordeaux (40 minutes’ drive from the cottage): listed as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO, the capital city of Aquitaine will attract both classical architecture lovers but also people looking for South of France way of living with its tapas bars, its terraces and its must-see embankments alongside the Garonne River.
Saint-Emilion (1 hour drive from the cottage): also listed as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO, this small medieval city has a lot of charm with its ramparts, its tortuous streets and - off course - its very famous wines.
The Bay of Arcachon (1 hour drive from the cottage): we invite you to discover these extraordinary landscapes where the pine tree forest meets sand dunes between open Atlantic Ocean and the inland sea. There, you will discover traditional oyster-farming villages, 19th century villas or take a trip in “pinasse”, the traditional boats from the Bay of Arcachon.
For the surf, kite surf or sailing lovers, ocean beaches and lakes are only a 30 to 45 minutes' drive from the cottage, including the famous surf spot of Lacanau.
For the golf players, 4 golfs are within a 30 km range
• Less than 15 minutes’ drive: Margaux's Golf and the Golf du Médoc
• About 30 minutes’ drive: Golf of Bordeaux-Lac and the Golf of Lacanau
And for others sports lover, hiking, cycling (including the Médocaine de VTT race in May) and running (including the Marathon du Médoc in September, 8 and 21 km races of the Tournée des cuviers in April, etc.) can be practiced all year long.
Amongst the best and well-known wines of France, Médoc vineyards is worth being discovered. If you are keen on visiting the most prestigious Grands Crus, reaching Pauillac and Margaux is only a 15 minutes’ drive while if you prefer to discover new rising wines, you can reach Listrac, Moulis or the Haut-Médoc estates within a few minutes.
Don’t hesitate to book in advance a wine tasting in the estates you would like to discover, most of them can only be visited upon appointments.
